Kristi made these two quilts to go on a set of antique twin beds. I love how traditional and scrappy they are, but with the freehand straight line quilting they now have a contemporary feel! I also finished the binding so when Kristi gets them they are 100% finished.

I especially love the dark and very scrappy fabrics in this quilt. It looks like it could have been pieced 60 years ago. |

When doing straight line quilting I use the seams on the quilt as guide lines. Kristi wanted it freehand so even though it takes a while to quilt the freehand element gave me some flexibility. |
makes me want to do some of that straightline quilting right now!! xoxo pam
ReplyDeleteI love the look of the straight lines. I have a donation top that I think I will do w/straight lines-never done any on a quilt before.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the inspiration!
That will be a great quilt to practice on. I averaged between 1/4 to 3/4 inch widths. Good Luck!
DeleteThose look great! Brave, doing it freehand...I think I that would stress me out...all though, it does give it more of a natural look over a machine look.
ReplyDeleteFreehand? Did you go really fast? I am going to have to try that, but it sounds really scary!!
ReplyDeleteYes the straight lines were done freehand at the request of my customer. I would have stayed safe and used my horizontal lock but because she wanted freehand I went for it. I actually like the freehand better. It gives it a more organic feel. My speed was fairly fast around 50-60 on my machine (Gammill). If I went too fast my thread would loop on top. Give it a try and good luck!
